Nancy Life History

Nancy Irene (Thorson) Deshayes, 71, of Eagle Colorado, passed away on June 23, 2013 surrounded by her family after a courageous fight against cancer. She was born in LaCrosse, WI to Tenart and Mildred (Benson) Thorson of Houston, MN on December 28th 1941. Upon graduating Houston High School in 1958, she completed her Registered Nursing Degree at St. Francis School of Nursing (now Viterbo University) in LaCrosse in 1961. She married Melvin Goede of Houston, Minnesota in 1963 and together they had 2 sons, Paul David Deshayes and Jon Kevin Deshayes. Her Nursing career led her from Minnesota to Colorado where she worked at various hospitals including Weld County General Hospital in Greeley, Vail Valley Medical Center and the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail Colorado. In 1972 she married Ernie Deshayes of Sterling, Colorado and together they had 2 sons Mark David Deshayes and Eric Thorson Deshayes. She retired in 2006 after dedicating over 40 years of her life to the nursing profession. She loved being outside in the Colorado mountains and enjoyed hiking, 4-wheeling, fishing, and camping. She was a member of the Vail Mountain Rescue and volunteered for work on the Colorado Trail System. For years, she spent countless hours volunteering as a victims advocate for the Eagle County Sheriff’s department. Nancy spent her life caring for others and giving back to the land she loved.
