Obituary for Harold G Mortensen

Harold G Mortensen
Harold G. Mortensen, age 100, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at his Silt home surrounded by family. He was born June 27, 1915, to George and Florenda Mortensen in Emery, Utah. He married June Hyatt on February 13, 1939.

He started his work career as a farmer with his dad, but after marrying June he got hired on as a miner. He worked in the coal mines in Utah until he packed up his family in 1958 and moved to Glenwood Springs to work at the Mid Continent mine in Carbondale.

Harold and his son Duane and daughter-in-law Margaret bought a ranch in 1989 after his beloved wife June passed away. They had been married for 50 years. Harold loved riding his horses, and he could ride for hours at a time. He knew there was never a horse that couldn’t be ridden no matter how green they were. He enjoyed the ranch and kept busy with the horses, goats, ducks, cats and dogs. His animals always came first. He loved running his farm equipment as well as repairing it. His ranch was never work to him but it was his passion, and he did it very well.

Harold was an amazing husband, father, brother and grandfather and will be missed by all the folks that came in contact with him.

He is survived by his children: Barbara Haycock and husband Cliff, Bonnie Fischer, Duane Mortensen and wife Margaret, and Danny Mortensen and wife Stacey; his 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister Hope Noyes and husband Lloyd.

A service will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2016, 11:00 AM at the Mountain View Church in Glenwood Springs, with a burial to follow at Rosebud Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to: Wounded Warrior Project, PO BOX 758517, Topeka, KS 6667.
