Obituary for Robert Lee DeRoeck Sr.

Robert “Bob” Lee DeRoeck was a long-time resident of Glenwood Springs and an active member of the community. Bob was born in 1928 in Chicago, Illinois and he served in the Ready Reserves of the U.S. Army. He married the love of his life, Glennyce, in 1947, and their marriage lasted over 70 years. Bob and Glennyce moved to Glenwood Springs in 1973, where he started DeRoeck Crane Service, which he and his wife operated until 2002. During that time, he worked on the I-70 expansion through the Glenwood Canyon, on the construction of the Ritz Carlton in Aspen, and in building the towns of Aspen and Snowmass. Bob was an active member of the Glenwood Springs Elks, and an avid golfer who spent many hours on “The Hill” working on perfecting his game. He was involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren and frequently seen in the stands at Glenwood Springs High School during football games. Bob was surrounded by his family in the final days of his life.
He is preceded in death by his daughters, Teri and Sandra, grandson Robert James and great-grandson Bobby. He is survived by his wife Glennyce, son Lee, daughter-in-law Carrie, sons-in-law Richard and Bob, 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, November 10th at 2 p.m. at Farnum Holt Funeral Home in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
