Obituary for Edith S Chisholm

Edith S Chisholm
Edith S. Chisholm, age 94, peacefully passed away Nov. 3, 2015, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, with family at her side.

Born May 30, 1921, to Anton and Margaret Skiff, she grew up on a ranch just outside of Aspen and in her youth participated enthusiastically in many activities, especially singing in choir and spending time cooking with her mother for a large family and friends.

She graduated Aspen High School and then spent time helping set up Camp Hale for the 10th Mountain Division. After completing a two-year degree at Barnes Business College in Colorado Springs, she briefly worked in an office in Denver, deciding instead to enlist in the U.S. Navy. She served in the Fleet post office in San Francisco throughout World War II. Following the war she returned home to Aspen and married Hugh A. Chisholm and started a family. She continued to work for Walter Paepcke, then later for the Elisha family at the Hotel Jerome.

In 1965, she went to work for the Aspen Skiing Corp., retiring from the Aspen Skiing Co. as administrative assistant to the ski school in 1986.

During retirement, she and Hugh made short trips, and she enjoyed photography and painting, as well as spending time with her good friends and family. In the last 11/2 years she was a resident of Heritage Park Care Center enjoying all the music and ice cream they could dish up.

Over the course of her life, she donated money with her positive attitude and joy for life. She was a great cook and baker, loving mother and wife with a strong Catholic faith. She will be greatly missed.

Edith is survived by a younger sister, Lois Skiff, 92, of Littleton, Colorado; daughter Heather Chisholm of Littleton; daughter and son in-law Karen and Bob Stevenson of Aspen.

Services will include a rosary at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at St. Mary Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at St. Mary Catholic Church. A burial will follow at Red Butte Cemetery, with a reception afterwards.

Memorials in Edith’s name are suggested to the Aspen Music Festival & School, and the American Heart Association.
