Obituary for Allan Adelbert Bowles

Allan Adelbert  Bowles
Allan Adelbert Bowles was born May 5th, 1928 in Glenwood Springs, Co to Adelbert and Thelma (Hotz) Bowles. He spent his childhood on his parent’s ranch (The Diamond J) on the Frying Pan River east of Basalt, riding horseback to school at the one room school house in Thomasville. He attended High School in Glenwood Springs and Basalt, graduating in 1946 and earned a BS degree in Animal Husbandry in 1951 from Colorado A&M University.
Allan married Joyce Pearson in Grand Junction, Co on June 15, 1949. They worked with his parents at Woods Lake Resort until January 1st, 1957 when he took the job as manager of the Cap K Ranch in Basalt, Co. He then attended Colorado State University graduating in 1964 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. The family then moved to Glenwood Springs where he practiced Veterinary medicine for 29 years, retiring in 1993. During his years at the Glenwood Veterinary Clinic he served on the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners from 1977 to 1987 and many other Veterinary boards. At the local level he served on the Garfield County Planning Commission, and the Garfield County Board of Adjustments.
Allan was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying horseback riding in the back country going on pack trips, hunting, fishing, cross country and downhill skiing. He was most happy on the back of a horse and rode thru his 86th year. He was a master leather worker, making and repairing saddles and tack. Family & friends will cherish many gifts of belts, chaps and leather vests.
Survivors include his son Bruce (Lee) Bowles, three grandchildren, Matt (Sara)Bowles, Shauni(Seth)Carmitchel and Catlyn Bowles, with one great grandchild, Samuel, brother, Arthur(Pauline)Bowles and sister, Phyllis Hyrup, with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce and eldest son Michael.
A Celebration of Allan’s life will be held at Farnum Holt Mortuary on Thursday November 5th at 10:00AM, followed immediately by a reception after the funeral with graveside services to follow at Rosebud Cemetery.
