Obituary for Barry Craig Shideler

Barry Craig Shideler, 68, passed away 15 Sept. 2015 surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Barry was born 6 Oct. 1946 in Glenwood Springs to Charles Joseph Shideler and Beatrice Robinson. He rode his horse Trigger to the little Mamm Creek School from grades 1-5, then went to Rifle for the remainder of his schooling. Upon graduation he attended BYU in Provo Utah for 1 1/2 years.

In 1970 he served a two-year mission to Bolivia for the LDS Church.

In 1973 he met and married his love Marilyn Walters. Through the years they brought five precious babies home to the ranch to love. He often joked that he was raising cattle and kids.

His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, fishing, and serving in various positions in the LDS Church. He was blessed with a gift to love others and a smile that brightened the darkest day. The Colorado skies will never shine as bright without that smile.

In 2002 when Barry needed a kidney transplant his cousin Aleen Robinson Johnson offered this wonderful gift of life to him. Later in 2010 he was needing a second transplant when a dear friend Charlene Sheets gave her kidney to Barry. Both precious gifts helped prolong his life.

Survived by his wife, daughter Lorie (Richard Cannon), sons Joey, Chris (Jenn), Michael (Alicia), Ryan (Elizabeth), and 15 grandchildren Carlee, Austin, Kate, Drew Cannon, Bennet, Abby, Charlie, Ava, Sadie, Precious, Roman, Madden, Sydney Elizabeth, Lincoln, Simon Shideler, and sister Carol Bennett.

Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the LDS Church in Rifle.
