Robert Thomas O’Donnell
September 7, 1921-August 30, 2015
Robert Thomas (Bob) O’Donnell died peacefully at home in his 94th year, surrounded by family and devoted care-givers. He is pre deceased by Marie C (Mickie) O’Donnell, his wife of 66 years. Bob’s love for travel in the Midwest and West began in the twenties, on road trips with his father in a Model-T Ford. After graduating from Washington University, St Louis in 1943, he contributed to the war effort by working on a team to develop synthetic rubber, which was vital for the tires of military vehicles. His subsequent work as an engineer took him around the world, including trips to China and other iron-curtain countries where travel was still restricted. He moved to Glenwood Springs with his wife Mickie almost 25 years ago. He used his Colorado base to continue growing a successful agricultural business in Nebraska well into his eighties. He was active in Kiwanis, Elks, and other civic endeavors. Robert is survived by his sons Robert T. and Carl R. O’Donnell, daughter Cathy O’Donnell, five grandchildren Blake, Kyle, Bradley, Patrick and Michael O’Donnell, three great grandchildren Quinn, Maeve and Alistair O’Donnell. A memorial service will be held Wednesday September 2, 2015, 2:00 PM at the Farnum Holt Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Washington University, St. Louis School of Engineering Campus P.O Box 1082, One Brooking Drive, St. Louis MO 63130-4899 or on line at gifts@westl.edu in memory of Robert T.
