Obituary for Thomas William Johnson

Thomas William Johnson (Will) passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at the age of 30. The cause of death was heart failure. Will was born in Denver, Colorado on March 6, 1985. He grew up in Denver Colorado, attending Bromwell Elementary, Smiley Middle School, and graduating from East High School in 2005. In 2006 with the enthusiastic support of his brother and parents he entered Stewart Home School in Frankfort, Kentucky. He spent his winters at Stewart enjoying the academic challenges of Stewart, his job in the horse stables, and participating in innumerable sports activities. For the last four summers he has lived in Aspen with his mother Ann Mullins and worked at the Aspen Club, a job that in many ways defined him; he was so proud to be a member of the ‘team’, to work at such a special place, and to make so many good friends. His diagnosis of Down syndrome never limited his achievements or the goals he pursued. Will was not only a stellar athlete in a variety of sports ranging from basketball to skiing to equestrian, but he was also known by many as the ‘Main Man’ of Stewart Home School. He was a young man with limitless potential that embraced every opportunity given to him and achieved more than anyone ever imagined he would. He was a loyal friend, a devoted son and an adoring brother. Will’s life was a series of surprises, challenges, and great happiness for everyone that was fortunate enough to meet him. His love for life was embodied in everything that he did. Instead of his family taking care of him, many times, especially in the last few years, Will was the one that took care of us. Will is survived by his mother, Ann Mullins, his father, Mark Johnson, his brother Matt Johnson, his Aunts, Uncles and many cousins. His family will always remember the joy, humor and goodness that Will brought to our lives and the impact he had on so many others. Rest well Will.
