Archi Johnston Winters

Archi Winters passed away on May 31, 2015, at the age of 84. Archi was born on September 16, 1930, in Oak Park, Illinois, to Dorothy May Johnston and Richard Mansfield Winters. They relocated to Milwaukie, Oregon, where he finished school. He was an avid skier at Mt. Hood, worked in Glacier National Park in summer, and skied and worked at SunValley, Idaho, in winter. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. He loved surfing and built his own boat for commercial abalone diving out of Newport Beach, California.

Archi met Patricia in Sun Valley, married in 1958, and had two daughters. He attended San Diego Junior College studying automotive repair specializing in electrical and carburetor tuning. He enjoyed the best times in San Diego and La Jolla. He left southern California for a more promising ski experience and landed in Glenwood Springs in 1968. He became connected to the Sunlight Ski Area and Hot Springs Pool where he made many friends. After living up the NoName creek canyon for 43 years, he and Pat made the move to city living in Glenwood.

Archi worked as an automotive technician for Walt Whitmer Auto Repair, Dick Wheeler Chevrolet, and Dick Gilstrap Valley Tire. He retired in 1995 from Public Service Shoshone Hydroelectric Plant where he worked for over 19 years as a machinist.

Archi is survived by his wife Patricia, daughters Marin and Andrea, son-in-law Carl, and sister Dorothy.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at the Elks Lodge #2286, 51939 US Hwy 6&24, Glenwood Springs, on Saturday, June 13, 2015, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. No flowers please.
