Obituary for Lawrence Paul "Buzz" Zancanella

Lawrence Paul "Buzz" Zancanella
Lawrence P. “Buzz” Zancanella, (who was 75) of Glenwood Springs sadly passed from this Earth on January 10th at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction. A Rosary will be held at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 14th, at 2:30 PM, and Mass will follow at 3:00 PM. Father Bert Chilson will be officiating. A burial will be held at Rosebud cemetery come spring.

Buzz was born (Dec. 3, 1939) and raised in Glenwood Springs by Lawrence “Bugo” and Ruth (Gould) Zancanella. He met and married (April 16, 1966) his wife Gracie (Lavergne) Zancanella in New Iberia, Louisiana, while he was stationed there in the Navy. After his honorable discharge they moved back to his hometown of Glenwood Springs.

He was a lifelong member of St. Stephan’s Parish. He proudly served in the Navy for 4 1⁄2 years. Upon returning to Glenwood he became a volunteer firefighter before becoming Chief. He served many years on the board of the Colorado State Firefighters Association and a term as their president. In his dedication to his home town he worked for the electrical and water department. After retiring from the city he worked for True Value and Big John’s hardware. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus and the internet group “You know you are from Glenwood Springs when you remember...” However, there was always time to spend with family and friends. He loved woodworking, collecting Glenwood memorabilia, snow removal for his whole neighborhood, practical jokes and blowing giant bubbles in the summer for all those who drove down Blake Ave.

He is survived by his Mother Ruth, his wife Gracie, and his three daughters Rosemary Preheim, Christy and Annie Zancanella. Also survived by his son-in-law Steve Preheim and their daughters Maddy and Lexy, his sister Eleanor Zemlock, her husband Marty and their four boys Scott, Mike (wife Diane), Joe (wife Debbie), and Andy. Along with numerous great-nephews, great-nieces, and cousins galore.

In lieu of flowers the family would like you to send donations to Rose Hill Hospitality House (605 26 1/2 Road, Grand Junction, CO 81506) who graciously put up his daughters and cared for him so tenderly during his hospital stay. Thank you to everyone who has helped the family in this time of grieving. He never met a stranger and was willing to do anything for anyone. He was a wonderful man with a huge heart and will be greatly missed. Farnum Holt Funeral Home in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
